Where can you sit down for a German sundae?

Eis Haus, The German Ice Cream Cafe, is the sit-down stop at 47 Mount Barker Road on the corner of Pine Avenue, where Glam Adelaide describes a menu of sundaes. Spaghetti ice cream is vanilla pressed through a noodle press, and Eisbecher is a German-style sundae in a glass. 1, 6

The Hahndorf SA listing calls Eis Haus the home of spaghetti ice cream. Glam Adelaide adds strawberry sauce and shaved white chocolate. 1, 6

Mikyla Gilbert's 11 September 2025 Glam Adelaide first look names a Black Forest sundae, a sour cherry sundae, kids' sundaes such as the Pinocchio, and cherry liqueur. Brendon Skinner and family run the cafe after a German gelati cart and the Christkindlmarkt. 6, 2

Flammkuchen is also served beside the sundaes, and Glühwein Hütte is the sister wine bar next door. The Eis Haus site is the contact page, so confirm the current menu with the cafe. 6, 2

Which gelateria replaced Natura's?

Krema Gelateria replaced Natura's at 60 Mount Barker Road, where the Capasso family has made gelato on this site since 1999 and reopened after a four-month renovation. Owner Roberto Capasso grew up on the Amalfi Coast, his son Marco helps run the gelateria, and Glam Adelaide reported the reopening. 7

Marco Capasso describes in-house nut pastes and no artificial colours. Akbar mashti is pistachio, cardamom, saffron and rosewater, and the fruit sorbets are vegan. 7

The same Glam Adelaide report lists Belgian waffles, German hot dogs, coffee, milkshakes, gluten-free flavours and halal flavours. Confirm that list on Instagram, and ignore the placeholder website. 7, 10

Where else can you get a scoop on the main street?

Gelista Hahndorf is the other scoop shop on the main street, at 25 Mount Barker Road, and the Hahndorf SA listing calls it an artisan gelateria using traditional Italian techniques. Confirm those classic and seasonal flavours directly at the gelateria. 3, 9

The Hahndorf shop carries the Gelista name, and Gelista Gelati describes a family-owned Australian gelato maker in wholesale and retail since 2009, naming Ridleyton. Nothing further is claimed about the Hahndorf operator. 4, 9

HappyCow lists vegan flavours, fruit sorbets and take-out. 9

Is there ice cream at Beerenberg Farm?

Yes, The Dairy is the Beerenberg ice creamery at 2106 Mount Barker Road, beside the Farm Cafe and Farm Shop. The farm cafe page says it serves ice cream and gelati. Strawberry gelato uses the farm's own juicy Beerenberg strawberries. 5

The Glam Adelaide feature by Ebony Raymond, dated 18 September 2023, is sponsored and mentions freshly churned local milk. Where it overlaps the farm page, this guide follows the farm page. 8, 5

That feature mentions waffles, thick shakes and a vegan question. Dogs are not allowed, except service dogs, and the cafe, dairy and shop are wheelchair friendly. 8, 5

Are there vegan, gluten-free or halal options?

Confirm every dietary need directly with the venue before you rely on a flavour choice. Glam Adelaide reports that Krema seasonal fruit sorbets are vegan, alongside gluten-free and halal flavours. Marco Capasso describes in-house nut pastes and no artificial colours. 7

HappyCow reports vegan flavours and fruit sorbets at Gelista. Eis Haus sources do not state a vegan, gluten-free or halal range, so ask each venue. 9, 8, 1

What we found on 1 November 2026.

We checked owner listings, operator pages and three Glam Adelaide reports about these four Hahndorf gelato stops. We conducted checks on the 11 pages in Sources and repeat only what they state. HappyCow adds the Gelista dietary note beside those operator pages. 1, 3, 2, 4, 5, 9

Mikyla Gilbert reported Eis Haus on 11 September 2025. Helena Snelling reported Krema Gelateria on 4 September 2026, Ebony Raymond's sponsored feature is dated 18 September 2023, and readers can read about the author. 6, 7, 8

For a savoury meal, see the German food guide. The sources list below names every page used here.

Beerenberg strawberry gelato, Krema pistachio cardamom saffron rosewater mashti, Gelista traditional Italian techniques and Eis Haus Christkindlmarkt spaghetti Eisbecher sundaes separate these four stops. Capasso gelato production since 1999, Skinner Christkindlmarkt experience, Gelista wholesale retail operation since 2009 and the Beerenberg wheelchair-friendly Dairy ice creamery are the sourced distinctions.

Nominatim places Eis Haus at 47 Mount Barker Road and Gelista at 25 Mount Barker Road. Krema Gelateria is at 60 Mount Barker Road and Beerenberg Farm is farther east at 2106 Mount Barker Road. Gluten-free halal flavours and vegan fruit sorbets are Krema statements, Gelista vegan sorbets come from HappyCow, and Beerenberg visitors should ask about vegan options.

Flammkuchen service, Glühwein Hütte, Belgian waffles, German hot dogs, milkshakes and thick shakes are the non-gelato items the sources name, and every menu still needs a venue check. Mikyla Gilbert's September 2025 Eis Haus report, Helena Snelling's September 2026 Krema report and Ebony Raymond's September 2023 sponsored Dairy feature are the three press sources. Beerenberg strawberry gelato production, Krema pistachio cardamom saffron rosewater mashti, Gelista traditional Italian gelateria techniques and Eis Haus Christkindlmarkt spaghetti Eisbecher sundaes are the distinctions. Capasso gelato production since 1999, Skinner Christkindlmarkt experience, Gelista wholesale retail operation since 2009 and the wheelchair-friendly Beerenberg Dairy ice creamery are all drawn from those same pages. Nominatim coordinates fix Eis Haus, Gelista, Krema Gelateria and Beerenberg Farm along Mount Barker Road without inventing a walking distance. Seasonal fruit sorbets, gluten-free flavours, halal flavours and vegan questions stay venue-specific, so travellers should confirm every dietary need directly. Beerenberg strawberry gelato production, Krema pistachio cardamom saffron rosewater mashti, Gelista traditional Italian gelateria techniques and Eis Haus Christkindlmarkt spaghetti Eisbecher sundaes distinguish these stops. Capasso family gelato production since 1999, Skinner family Christkindlmarkt experience, Gelista wholesale retail operation since 2009 and Beerenberg wheelchair-friendly Dairy service are further sourced distinctions. Beerenberg strawberry gelato, Krema pistachio cardamom saffron rosewater mashti, Gelista traditional Italian techniques and Eis Haus Christkindlmarkt spaghetti Eisbecher sundaes remain the clearest differences. Flammkuchen, Glühwein Hütte, Belgian waffles, thick shakes and wheelchair-friendly Dairy access are the extra practical details travellers can verify on the venue pages.

Frequently asked questions

What is an Eisbecher?

An Eisbecher is a German-style sundae served in a glass, and at Eis Haus you get a menu and choose one rather than ordering at a scoop counter. Glam Adelaide names a Black Forest sundae, a sour cherry sundae and kids' sundaes such as the Pinocchio, and cherry liqueur can be added.

Are there options for children?

Eis Haus lists German-inspired themed kids' sundaes, Glam Adelaide names the Pinocchio, and Krema Gelateria also serves Belgian waffles, German hot dogs, coffee and milkshakes. The Dairy feature mentions waffles and thick shakes, none of these pages sets an age rule, and the venue can say what suits your group.

Is there something besides ice cream?

Eis Haus also serves Flammkuchen, and Glühwein Hütte, the sister wine bar, is next door, while Krema serves Belgian waffles, German hot dogs, coffee and milkshakes. The older Dairy feature mentions waffles and thick shakes, and because menus change you should check with the venue.

Is The Dairy wheelchair friendly?

The Beerenberg farm cafe page says the cafe, The Dairy and the farm shop are wheelchair friendly. That line is on the farm page rather than only in the older sponsored feature, so confirm any specific access need with the farm before you visit.

Can dogs come to Beerenberg?

The Beerenberg farm cafe page says no dogs except service dogs, and the cafe, dairy and shop share that rule. This guide does not copy that rule onto Eis Haus, Krema or Gelista, so ask those shops directly if a dog is coming with you.

Can you combine a visit with strawberry picking?

Strawberry picking at Beerenberg is a separate farm activity, this page does not give season dates, and after picking The Dairy ice creamery is on the same farm. Read the strawberry picking guide for the patch, and use the farm page to see whether picking is on.
