Hahndorf is the village these walks cover. Hahndorf Walking Tours is the operator of the guided walks. The Haus is where the coffee and cake walk starts. Book Strassendorf, After Dark with a meal, or stroll the main street with no ticket.

What does the Strassendorf walk cover?

The Strassendorf walk covers prominent places at the southern end of the main street, including some the operator says are not open to the public. The same page calls it an exclusive look at those places, with time for photographs. 3, 1

The operator’s Strassendorf page says the guide meets the group at the Hahndorf Brewery, then goes to St Paul’s Lutheran Church. The page ties that stop to the settlers’ flight from Prussia, and to fachwerk, the Germanic building method the guides explain on the walk. 3

The same page adds the Pioneer Women’s walking trail, and the folklore of the old pear tree and the pretzel. The homepage says a walk with these guides also brings in Captain Hahn and the feats of the pioneer women. Those are the operator’s stories, told on the tour. 3, 1

The saved listing is the shorter southern-end walk. The operator’s Strassendorf page lists food and drinks under exclusions. The tours page says the easily paced walks cover no more than about 750 metres. 4, 3, 2

What’s on the coffee and cake walk?

The coffee and cake walk starts at The Haus with a sweet treat and a hot drink, then continues as a guided walk through the village. The operator’s pages call it the Kaffee and Kuchen walk, a sweet stroll through the town’s history. 1, 2

The saved listing describes a guided village walk with coffee and cake, and it is a longer guided walk than the southern-end tour. Coffee and cake are named in the listing’s included line. The card beside the table opens that listing. 5

Is the After Dark walk worth it for dinner?

Choose After Dark when you want the walk and a meal on one booking. The saved listing is the After Dark walk of Hahndorf with a meal included, and it is the longer guided walk. The operator’s tours page lists After Dark with a meal option among the walks. 6, 2

The meal itself is described on the Hahndorf pubs guide, and German dishes elsewhere in the village are on the German food guide. This page keeps the choice of walk. The After Dark card is at the end.

Can you do a self-guided walk of Hahndorf?

Yes. South Australia’s Hahndorf page tells visitors to stroll the main street and look at the heritage German buildings, bakeries, pubs and cafes. That stroll has no ticket and no guide. 7

The state heritage standards say the portion of Mount Barker Road through Hahndorf is generally known as Main Street. The State Heritage Area fact sheet says Hahndorf was declared a State Heritage Area on 25 August 1988, and that the town was named for Captain Dirk Hahn. The same sheet says the names of the 52 pioneering families are inscribed on the gates of the Pioneer Memorial Gardens. 8, 9

The German Village Shop’s own page says the business opened in 1989 in a heritage-listed stone building from 1866, once a stables and a stone masonry. The same page says the shop has since moved about 160 metres to 32 Main Street. 12

OpenStreetMap still has a point named The German Village Shop on Main Street, at -35.030517, 138.811020. Treat that point as the mapped name. Use 32 Main Street for the counter the shop names now. 14, 12

The state places note puts the Hahndorf Academy at 68 Main Street, founded in 1857 as the town’s first government-supported primary school. OpenStreetMap places a point named Hahndorf Academy on Main Street. 10, 11, 13, 9

St Michael’s Lutheran Church is at 18 Church Street in the heritage assessment, and the fact sheet puts it on the corner of Balhannah and Church Streets. Nominatim returned no building pin for the church or for Pioneer Memorial Gardens, so those two stops are named here and left off the map marker. 11, 9
