What we found

We conducted checks on the 17 pages in Sources and repeat only what they state. We read the Amble at Hahndorf listing and the Koolyangarra Cottage listing. For example, the Amble listing, such as its facility lines, states a hot tub and a spa bath, and the Koolyangarra listing states a hot tub. Contact each property before you book, and read about the author for how this was checked. ⁠^{2, 3}

The Department for Environment and Water says the State Heritage Area covers Main and Victoria Streets and their early German-influenced buildings. It dates Hahndorf to 1839 and calls it Australia's oldest surviving German settlement. ⁠¹

Which Hahndorf village stays list a spa bath or a hot tub?

Amble at Hahndorf is the saved village stay whose Booking.com page lists both a hot tub and a spa bath. The address is 10 Hereford Avenue, Hahndorf, and the page states 1,650 ft from the centre of Hahndorf. ⁠²

The bookable names on that page are Amble Wren Spa Cottage, Amble Fern Spa Apartment and Amble Over Spa Apartment. The property description also lists family rooms. On the operator’s site Wren lists a spa-bath and 2 guests, Fern lists a spa-bath and 3 guests, and Over lists a spa-bath and 3 guests. ⁠^{2, 11, 12, 13}

Fern’s page and Over’s page both say the two can be booked together, and that an interconnecting hallway can be opened on request. Those room pages list the spa-bath, and they do not repeat a hot tub. The hot tub is on the property listing, so ask which unit has it. ⁠^{12, 13}

Which spa stays are a short drive into the Hills?

Three saved stays outside the village still state a bath or a tub on their listing: Koolyangarra Cottage, Castle Keep in Crafers, and Aldgate Creek Cottage in Aldgate. None of them uses a Hahndorf village street. ⁠^{3, 4, 5}

Koolyangarra Cottage, Carey Gully

Booking.com lists a hot tub and spa facilities, 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and 4 guests. The FAQ says yes, there is a hot tub. The address on that page is 169 Rangeview Drive, Adelaide Hills, SA 5144, and the page states 9 miles from the centre of Adelaide. ⁠^{3, 14}

The operator’s accommodation page gives the same street in Carey Gully and describes a 2 bedroom cottage. It does not name the tub, so use the Booking.com page for the hot tub and the spa facilities. The highlights also say the entire place is yours. ⁠^{14, 3}

Castle Keep, Crafers

Castle Keep B&B in the Tower is at 2 Glenside Lane, 5152 Crafers. Booking.com describes one bedroom and one bathroom, and the description includes a spa bath. The house rules say children are not allowed, and pets are not allowed. ⁠⁴

Aldgate Creek Cottage, Aldgate

Aldgate Creek Cottage’s Booking.com page gives 3 Rugby Road, 5154 Aldgate, lists a spa bath, and states 1 bedroom and 2 guests. It also states 1,000 ft from the centre of Aldgate. The operator’s site calls the bathroom a two-person spa and a double spa bath. ⁠^{5, 15}

What is the difference between a spa bath and a hot tub?

On these pages, a spa bath is named with the bathroom, and a hot tub is named with the wellness or outdoor lines. They are not the same sentence, and a property can list one, the other, or both. ⁠^{2, 3, 4, 5}

• Amble’s listing lists a hot tub and a spa bath, and Wren, Fern and Over, on the operator site, each list a spa-bath in the bathroom copy. ⁠
• Koolyangarra’s highlights say “Wellness: Hot tub”, the about text says spa facilities and a hot tub, and the FAQ says there is a hot tub. The listing photo shows the tub outdoors. ⁠
• Castle Keep’s description includes a spa bath with the apartment’s bathroom line, and it does not call that fitting a hot tub. ⁠
• Aldgate Creek’s listing includes a spa bath, and the operator site says a two-person spa and a double spa bath. ⁠

Which of these stays suit a couple, and which suit a group?

Use the guest count the page states. Aldgate states 2 guests. Amble’s own pages state 2 for Wren and 3 for Fern and for Over. Koolyangarra states 4 guests. Castle Keep states one bedroom and does not allow children. It does not publish a separate guest total. ⁠^{5, 11, 12, 3, 4}

Which other saved stays state a bath or a tub?

Three more saved pages state a bath or a tub and are not in the four cards. They are Escape to Adelaide Hills in Nairne, Kashikiri in Crafers, and Orchard Cottage in Lenswood. ⁠^{6, 7, 8}

Escape to Adelaide Hills, in Nairne, is the larger house in this check. Its description says the main bathroom has a spa bath and a shower, with 4 bedrooms, 5 beds and 2 bathrooms, and a dining table that seats ten. The public page gives 5252 Nairne and sends the street after booking. ⁠⁶

Kashikiri, 101 Piccadilly Road, Crafers, states 2 guests and 1 bedroom. Its description puts a Japanese wooden bath and open-air bathing in the private garden, and also lists a hot tub. The title includes “pre-finished special”. It is not one of the four cards. ⁠⁷

Orchard Cottage in Lenswood lists a hot tub, 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. The page says children are not allowed, and the street is sent after booking. The name includes the word spa. The facility line in the description is a hot tub. ⁠⁸

What should I confirm before I book a spa stay?

Confirm the unit, the fitting, and who may stay. A property name with the word spa is the building. Wren, Fern and Over are different rooms. A spa bath on a property description is not automatically the outdoor tub in the photo. ⁠^{2, 11, 4}

• The unit name on the confirmation, not only the property name. ⁠
• Whether you need the spa bath, the hot tub, or both, and ask Amble which unit has the hot tub. ⁠
• The guest count that page states, and whether children are allowed, because Castle Keep does not allow children. ⁠
• The street. Aldgate’s homepage and its listing do not print the same one. Escape and Orchard send the street after booking. ⁠
• Pets, on the pet-friendly stays guide and on the property page. This page does not set a pet rule. ⁠
• Parking, because each of the four shortlist pages lists private parking on site. ⁠

Koolyangarra’s highlights include pets welcome. Castle Keep says pets are not allowed. For any animal, start with pet-friendly accommodation in Hahndorf, then read the property page. A hot tub and a pet rule are separate questions. ⁠^{3, 4}

How do I get to these stays?

Hahndorf’s own directions put the village about 28 km south-east of Adelaide on the South Eastern Freeway. Check a map for the drive. Amble is the shortlist stay in that village. The other three need a drive on from the main street. ⁠^{16, 2}

After the unit is confirmed, use places to stay for other saved properties, breakfast in Hahndorf for breakfast in the village, and Sydney to Hahndorf via Adelaide Airport if you are still booking the flight. The Hills cottages are a drive. Car hire is the page for a car from Adelaide. ⁠
