What we found
We conducted checks on the 12 pages in Sources and repeat only what they state. We read The Haus menu page and the Gepetto’s site. For example, the restaurant sites, such as The Haus menu page, publish dinner, and Gepetto’s publishes dinner on its own site. Contact each venue before you go, and read about the author for how this was checked. 3, 4
The Department for Environment and Water describes early buildings with a distinctive German influence around Main Street, the setting for many dinner venues. It dates Hahndorf to 1839 and calls it Australia's oldest surviving German settlement. 1
Where can you have dinner in Hahndorf?
You can have dinner at a restaurant that publishes dinner, or at a pub that lists it. Haus and Gepetto’s do the first in their own words, and Comida describes a Spanish-inspired restaurant and bar. The German Arms, the Old Mill and the Inn list dinner. 2, 4, 5, 7, 6, 8
This page is the shortlist for a sit-down dinner. The eat and drink page lists more of the village.
| Place | Style of food | Setting | Best for | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Haus, 38A Main Street | A lunch and dinner menu, plus separate vegetarian, vegan and kids menus, for dine-in and takeaway. | A Hahndorf restaurant. The site has indoor dining and outdoor dining sections. | A published restaurant menu, eaten in or taken away. | The Haus menus page. |
| Gepetto’s, 94 Mt Barker Road | Italian plates, wood-fired pizza, gluten-free options, and Feed Me menus named on the site. | The site calls it an Italian cantina-style restaurant in the Adelaide Hills. | Pizza, pasta, or a set Feed Me menu. Reserve on the site. | Gepetto’s homepage. |
| Comida, 100C Mount Barker Road | Spanish-inspired food. The page describes a restaurant and bar, not a dish list. | A restaurant and bar that leads to a manicured garden with a bar, a pizza oven and a deck. | A garden setting, if that is what the current page still offers. | Comida’s homepage. |
| The pub option | Signature German dishes and Australian pub classics at the Arms. Classic pub fare at the Old Mill. A Bavarian menu at the Inn. | Hotel dining rooms. Each pub describes its own room. | A pub meal rather than a restaurant booking. One line each is below. | Each pub’s own page. The pubs guide compares the three. |
Which Hahndorf restaurant suits a sit-down dinner?
Choose Haus for a published lunch and dinner menu. Choose Gepetto’s for Italian plates and wood-fired pizza. Choose Comida when you want the Spanish-inspired room and garden the site describes. 3, 4, 5
Haus says it serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The menus page is titled for breakfast, lunch and dinner in Hahndorf, and it lists a lunch and dinner menu for dine-in and takeaway. The contact line on that page is 38A Main Street. 2, 3
The same page lists a vegetarian and vegan menu and a kids menu. The homepage has a book-a-table action, and it has indoor and outdoor dining sections. 2, 3
Gepetto’s says it serves lunch and dinner, and the page has a Dinner Service section. The address on the page is 94 Mt Barker Road. The menu groups pizza as wood-fired, and the site says it has gluten-free alternatives in pizza, pasta and other adaptable dishes. 4
Feed Me is the name of its set menus. The page also mentions live music by Adelaide artists, and it has a reserve-a-table action. The site calls the room an Italian cantina-style restaurant. 4
Comida’s page title is “Bar + Eatery”. The description calls it a Spanish-inspired restaurant and bar in Hahndorf, leading to a manicured garden with a bar, a pizza oven and a deck. This site lists it at 100C Mount Barker Road. Check that page before you go. 5
Can you have dinner at a Hahndorf pub?
Yes, three pubs list dinner on their own sites. Each gets one line here, and the Hahndorf pubs guide compares the rooms, the beer and which pub suits the visit. 6, 7, 8
- German Arms Hotel, 69 Main Street: it lists dinner and themed nights, and it describes signature German dishes plus contemporary Australian pub-style classics.
- Hahndorf Old Mill Hotel, 98 Main Street: the eat-and-drink page says it suits a casual lunch, a cosy dinner, or a celebration.
- Hahndorf Inn, 35 Main Street: the Inn says it is open every day except Christmas Day. Read its page for the hours.

Where can you eat German food for dinner?
For a German dinner, start with the Inn, which calls itself South Australia’s taste of Bavaria, and the German Arms, which describes signature German dishes. Dish names and the shops are on the German food guide. 8, 6
Do you need to book dinner in Hahndorf?
Check the venue page, because only that page can say whether you need a table. The Haus, Gepetto’s, the German Arms, the Old Mill and the Inn each publish a way to reserve. Comida’s page is the place to see whether it asks for a booking. Dinner is listed on the site; check the current days before you go. 2, 4, 6, 7, 8, 5
Where can you stay so you can walk to dinner?
Two saved stays sit on the same village road as these addresses: Reisen Hotel Hahndorf at 25 Mount Barker Road, and Hahndorf Motel at 60 Main Street. Room types for both are on the hotels and motels guide. 10, 9, 12
Hahndorf Motel’s saved listing is 60 Main Street. The map below uses that stay as its only pin. It is a motel, not a restaurant. 9
How do the dinner addresses line up?
The six dinner addresses are on one village road, listed here by street number. The map pin is Hahndorf Motel at 60 Main Street, between the Haus number and the German Arms number, and it is not a restaurant. A higher street number is not a promise of further south, because the road bends. 8, 3, 6, 4, 7, 5, 9

- Hahndorf Inn, 35 Main Street.
- Haus Restaurant, 38A Main Street.
- German Arms Hotel, 69 Main Street.
- Gepetto’s at Hahndorf, 94 Mt Barker Road.
- Hahndorf Old Mill Hotel, 98 Main Street.
- Comida Hahndorf, 100C Mount Barker Road.
Guided walks are a separate choice. They are on the walking tours guide. This page does not repeat the After Dark walk.
Moritz Hahndorf Boutique Guest House is the third saved stay. It is at 51 Auricht Road, and the saved listing type is Villas. That address is not on the village road, so do not assume the walk is the same as from the motel. 11

The return to the city is on the Adelaide to Hahndorf bus guide. This page does not list a timetable.
Frequently asked questions
Does Gepetto’s offer gluten-free food?
Gepetto’s homepage says it has gluten-free alternatives in pizza, pasta and other dishes that can be adapted. That is the restaurant’s line, not a promise that every plate can be changed. Tell the team what you need when you reserve, and read the menu on the site before you go.
Can you sit outside at Comida?
Comida’s homepage describes a Spanish-inspired restaurant and bar that leads to a manicured garden, with a bar, a pizza oven and a deck. The pictures on this page are daytime street and hotel photos, not that garden. Use the Comida page for how the garden is used now.
Is there a vegetarian choice at dinner?
The Haus menus page lists a vegetarian and vegan menu for dine-in and takeaway, next to the lunch and dinner menu. The Old Mill eat-and-drink page says vegetarians and vegans are catered for with plant-based burgers and schnitzels. Ask any other venue about the current menu.
Can children eat with you?
The Haus menus page lists a kids menu. Gepetto’s lists a Bambini kids menu. The Old Mill page says a kids menu is there so a family can eat together. Those lines do not describe seating in any more detail. Check the venue page before you go.
How do you get back to Adelaide after dinner?
This page does not list a bus timetable. The Adelaide to Hahndorf bus guide, linked above, explains the public bus back to the city and where to check the current service. A table booking is not a seat on that bus. Read that guide before you plan the return.
Can you take dinner away from The Haus?
The Haus menus page says the lunch and dinner menu is for dine-in and takeaway. That is the restaurant’s own wording. It does not say which dishes travel, and it does not name a collection window. Use the menus page, then the restaurant, for what is offered now.
